Core Subjects

Our Learners cover all core subjects including Maths, English and Science as well as and engaging in age-appropriate topics in history and geography. They are taught by qualified teachers in English Maths Science and PSHE.

Courses

Students are given the option to enrol in ASDAN courses.

ASDAN courses transform life chances for children and young people through learning and we are committed to helping every young person realise their full potential and so improving their future outcomes. The development of social and life skills goes hand in hand with academic achievement. ASDAN courses focus on completing challenges and skills according to individual ability.

We currently offer a number of short courses, including Stepping Stones, which are life and social skills, ‘Raising Aspirations’, ‘Being Independent’ and ‘Looking after myself’. In addition qualifications in Animal Care, Land-Based Sector and ‘Expression through Art’, Students are free to make their own choice, from a number of courses on offer through ASDAN.

We can offer Equine Assisted Learning packages through our sister company EAQ Luccombe, Riding lessons with the Luccombe Riding School and Art Therapy with our qualified Creative Arts Therapist

Functional Skills

For the students that wish to get the essential qualifications in Maths and English we have qualified Maths and English teachers to assist students to work towards their functional skills qualifications.

We also cover practical lessons in finance, money management, cooking, life skills, ICT and we ensure our learners understand internet safety and social media use.

Vocational Opportunities

We offer practical classes in mechanics and woodwork and other rural pursuits.

We work with The Dorset Forestry Commission where students can learn all elements of Forestry management and skills in coppicing and hedge-laying. All of these skills combined help our students to aim towards working apprenticeships.

Our students have the opportunity to experience work with farriers, equine dentists, vets, carpentry, mechanics, animals care and farm based activities including tractor driving.

Luccombe Hub has strong links with the local community and children are encouraged to get involved with charitable activities and local events.

Measuring Progress

All conventional schools are tied by legislation that dictates that students have to reach a certain level by a certain age. At The Hub we celebrate every individual achievement regardless of age or ability.

Each young person helps plan their own educational journey. They are able to explore and develop in a way that inspires them. The Hub is showing tangible results and genuine development with all students. We pride ourselves on individual progress, whether that be attendance, regulating behavior in difficult situations, or managing fears and anxieties.

Personal Development

It’s important to us that each child feels included and valued. By offering a wide range of experiences we can ensure each young person’s talents are discovered and nurtured.
