Outdoor Learning

Forest School

The Luccombe Hub Forest School is run by our Forest School Leaders, who are committed to the holistic learning and development of all participants. The Centre works in partnership with The Forestry Commission to gain access to a designated Forest School Site in Milton Abbas Woods.

Age-related activities can include searching for wildlife, climbing, building dens, creating natural art, map making, games, woodland skills, tracking, shelter construction, water purification. bread making, fire lighting, outside cooking, safe use of tools, spoon and tool whittling and coppicing.

Allotment and Garden

Our garden and allotment promote the use of the five senses. Wildflowers encouraging wildlife and pollination are intermingled with vegetables, herbs, and fruit trees to create a therapeutic and stimulate safe learning environment.

While working outside in the garden facilitators encourage the use of Maths, Science Biology and promote sustainability. Many children chose to do AQA Unit Awards in Gardening & Horticulture.

The allotment is part of a community-based project where learners can work in a safe environment alongside local residents, which helps to promote social interaction, develops their confidence in a healthy outdoor setting sharing their produce and giving them a sense of self-worth and positive identity.

Outdoor Learning

Our Outdoor Education uses natural resources to engage our young peoples’ natural curiosity for learning, enabling us to deliver a cross-curricular programme in all subjects, including Maths, English, Reading, Biology, History, Natural Science, Foraging, Cooking and DT.
