Travel Guidelines

Dear Parents and Carers

We appreciate that transport to Luccombe can be extremely expensive. While transport is provided for our learners, it is unusual for a learner not to share transport with other learners. When this occurs, it can result in limited taxi availability and, in some cases, prevent other children from attending altogether. We work on supporting resilience and independence and encourage learners to work towards a shared travel service or ask that parents transport them themselves until such time as your child can share a taxi confidently.

Following a recent number of incidents where children were not collected, we feel it is important to clarify the procedures surrounding taxi transport and collections.

The following guidance has been provided to us by Dorset Travel and BCP Travel:

  • If a taxi is cancelled in the morning (for example, if you bring your child in yourself or they have an appointment), the taxi is cancelled by SEN Transport for the entire day.
  • Taxi companies are not permitted to accept instructions directly from parents or Luccombe Hub to collect a child at the end of the day. Any return journey must be arranged directly with SEN Transport using the contact details below.
  • If your child has a pre-arranged appointment or needs to arrive early for an exam, please inform Dorset Travel as soon as possible and ensure that the return journey has been booked with them.

Unfortunately, Sen Travel Departments are unable to accept collection instructions from Luccombe Hub; all arrangements must be made directly by parents or carers.
