Parent Info

Dear Parent/Carer
Welcome to The Luccombe Hub
I would like to personally welcome you to The Luccombe Hub.
The team and I are excited to get to know your child and support them on their journey.
This letter is to tell you a little about the main points to ease your child’s start with us:
What can my child expect on their first day?
Whether they arrive by taxi or parent/carer drop off, your child will be warmly welcomed. If needed, space and time will be given to help with any transition, we know it can be daunting starting somewhere new.
A designated member of staff will be waiting at the start of your child’s session time at reception, we will sign them in the register. Any mobile phones, cameras and smart watches will be collected; these are stored securely in the locked office until home time.
Please be aware that vapes and knives are not permitted and will be confiscated.
On the first day, learners will be shown around the site and where the toilets are and where they can safely store their belongings. Timetable of activities/learning will be shared, and they get the opportunity to settle in and get to know their teachers and facilitators. Not to mention, meeting the animals.
Sickness/Absence
Please do not send your child in if they are unwell as we will just send them back home. If your child has been sick or got diarrhoea we require 48 hours clear of symptoms until they can reattend Luccombe.
If you need to report your child’s absence from session, please call by 8.30 am on the first morning of absence.
- Luccombe Hub please call 01258 440530 or 07930226886
- Alternative Provisions 07907711086
If you are aware of appointments, please let us know the date as soon as you are able. We would ask, where possible that any appointments such as dentists, opticians are booked outside of session times.
Lunchtime
Lunchtime is timetabled for 12:15, learners are welcome to eat with their peers in the Kitchen/Rec Room. If this is too much for them, that’s not a problem and we can arrange for them to eat wherever they feel happy too, whether that’s outside at the picnic benches, under the trees or inside one of the classrooms.
What your child needs to bring with them?
1. If not already forwarded to the office – completed admission/medical forms
2. A healthy pack lunch with a non-fizzy drink we ask that parents don’t give thire children packets of sweets or excessive amounts of sugary food.
3. Additional change of clothes, waterproofs and wellingtons for winter and sun hat and suncream in summer, please ensure any items are labelled please see Dress code policy
5. Bin liner for any dirty clothes
6. Any medication they may require throughout the day which need to be handed in to the office. Inhalers maybe retained by learner if declared on medical form and labelled with child’s name.
7. Please ensure medicines form has been completed and items sent in original box.
Behaviour
At The Luccombe Hub we take a therapeutic approach to behaviour management.
Instead of punishments such as detentions and written sanctions we use reflective practices and restorative meetings. We ask you do not send your child in if they are in the ‘Red Zone’. see Zones of Regulation.
We do not use restrictions such as isolating learners from activities instead focusing on natural and logical consequences. Using our therapeutic approach to behaviour management aids positive change in the learners; improving self-esteem, confidence, resilience, and honesty.
We do take a strong stance on bullying at Luccombe Hub because it is crucial that all our learners feel comfortable to be themselves and feel safe whilst with us. Each incident of bullying will be dealt with swiftly and we will always involve parents in the process. It’s important for a consistent approach and message of acts or threats of violence or harassment, be that face to face or via social media/text messages/emails is not acceptable. For more information please read the Centre’s Behaviour Policy, Fairness & Dignity (Anti-Bullying) Policy and Exclusion Policy.
