Thrive

What is Thrive?

The Thrive Approach is a trauma-informed, whole-school model that supports the mental health and wellbeing of children and young people. At Luccombe Hub, Thrive is central to our ethos, promoting emotional and social development through a relational approach based on six key principles:

  1. Restorative, Not Punitive: We prioritise repairing relationships and supporting behavioural change over punishment, helping pupils build self-regulation, empathy, and resilience.
  2. Behaviour as Communication We see behaviour as a sign of unmet needs and respond with understanding, separating the person from their actions.
  3. Developmentally Informed: We acknowledge that each stage of development comes with typical behaviours. These moments are seen as opportunities for adults to role-model and explicitly teach appropriate, constructive ways of behaving.
  4. Safe and Predictable Environment: Consistent routines and emotional safety help young people feel secure and ready to learn.
  5. Accountability and Solutions: We promote responsibility and reflection, encouraging constructive choices and future change.
  6. Adult Responsibility: We remain mindful that, as adults, it is our role to guide and support young people as they continue to grow, learn, and develop.

How have we embraced it?

We have two trained Thrive practitioners on site (Leanne and Lydia, please see above) , and all members of staff are equipped with training in the Thrive approach. The principles of Thrive are woven into our policies, and we provide Family Thrive courses for parents and carers of new starters to help ease their transition into life at Luccombe. Each learner has a personalised action plan, enabling staff to support their social and emotional development consistently across the curriculum and throughout their time with us.

Thrive Ambassador School Award
