Luccombe HUB CLUB Milton Mills
Practical Learning • Therapeutic Support • Careers • Skills for Life

The Luccombe Hub Club at Milton Mills is a therapeutic Alternative Provision offering young people, 14-18 year olds, a different approach to education through practical learning, real-world experiences, vocational opportunities and personal development.
The provision is designed for young people who may find a conventional classroom environment challenging and who benefit from learning that is practical, purposeful, engaging and linked to their individual interests and future aspirations.
Our aim is to support young people to re-engage positively with learning while developing the confidence, resilience, independence, communication and employability skills they need for their next steps.

- Horticulture
- Agricultural mechanics
- Machinery
- General farm duties
Work experience helps learners understand workplace expectations while developing punctuality, responsibility, communication, teamwork, confidence and a positive work ethic.
Fitness, Healthy Lifestyles & Preparation for the Uniformed Services
The Hub Club offers learners a fully equipped gym, providing another valuable opportunity to develop physical wellbeing, confidence, resilience and self-discipline.
Learners can be supported through personalised fitness programmes, developed around their individual abilities, needs and aspirations. The emphasis is on achievable progression, developing positive routines and helping young people understand the relationship between physical activity and their wider health and wellbeing.
Alongside physical fitness, learners are supported to develop their understanding of:
- Healthy lifestyle choices
- Nutrition and balanced diets
- Cooking and healthy food preparation
- Personal wellbeing
- Positive routines and goal setting
- Self-discipline and motivation
- Resilience and perseverance
- Teamwork and communication
This aspect of the programme can be particularly beneficial for young people who are interested in progressing towards careers in the Armed Forces, Police, Fire & Rescue Service, Ambulance Service or other uniformed and public services.
Aqa Unit Awards
Learners can work towards AQA Unit Awards, enabling practical learning, skills and individual achievements to be formally recognised.
This provides an accessible way of celebrating progression and can be particularly valuable for young people who have previously struggled to recognise their own educational achievements.
Careers Development & The Gatsby Benchmarks
Careers education is embedded within the Hub Club programme and is informed by the Gatsby Benchmarks for Good Career Guidance.
We aim to give learners meaningful opportunities to:
- Explore different careers and industries
- Understand the relevance of their learning to future employment
- Identify their individual strengths, interests and aspirations
- Meet employers and people working in different industries and trades
- Experience workplaces first-hand
- Develop employability and communication skills
- Explore further education and training
- Understand apprenticeships and vocational pathways
- Make informed decisions about their future
By connecting education, practical skills, employers and real workplaces, we aim to make careers education relevant and achievable for every learner.
A Therapeutic Approach
The Hub Club recognises that successful learning begins with the young person.
Our therapeutic approach places emphasis on relationships, emotional wellbeing, confidence, regulation, positive experiences and individual achievement.
Young people are encouraged to discover what they can do rather than focusing on what they have previously found difficult.
Through carefully planned practical activities, achievable challenges and positive relationships, we aim to help learners rebuild their confidence in themselves and in education.
Preparing Young People For Adulthood
Everything we offer has a clear purpose: helping young people become more confident, capable and prepared for adult life.
Whether a learner discovers an interest in mechanics, agriculture, horticulture, construction, cooking or another vocational pathway, we want them to leave with greater understanding of their abilities and a clearer idea of where those abilities could take them.
